New Server

When you read this, you're already connected to the new server that is now powering splitbrain.org, dokuwiki.org, their subdomains and a few more websites.

The new server is still hosted at Hetzner who proved to provide a reliable service over the last 2 years. Below are the specs of the old and new hardware.

Old Server New Server
Name zim gir
IP 88.198.6.20 78.46.97.149
CPU AMD Athlon™ 64 X2
Dual Core Processor 4200+

RAM 2 GB 6 GB
HDD 2×140 GB
3Ware IDE RAID
2×750 GB
3Ware SATA RAID
OS Debian “Etch” 4.0

Debian “Lenny” 5.0

As you can see the new server has quite a bit more power than the old one. The good thing is that it costs exactly the same as the old one (about 100€ per month). The bad thing is that I need to run both servers in parallel for a short while to do all the data migration and I had to pay a setup fee.

So server costs tripled this month 8-O. Luckily this is all payed for by your donations. Thanks everyone who donated in the past.

About DNS propagation: this site and the DokuWiki Forum where moved last week already, the bigger rest of domains just today. DNS TTLs where set to 15 minutes but depending on the caches involved1) it may take several hours until everything propagated properly.

Since I set up a completely new system, I may have forgotten to install a library or tune a certain setting. If you notice anything broken, please send me a mail.

PS: The server is now powered by eco power, so we're now carbon free, too. :-D

PPS: Because DokuWiki login cookies are partly bound to the IP you will need to login again.
